Which clips do I need?

Stand Up Clips (sometimes called ridge clips) stand the bulb straight up on top of the ridge, for the peaks that need to look good from more than one direction. Everything else uses standard shingle clips.

Just running lights along a ridge? You don’t need a special clip. Regular shingle clips slide right under the fold of the ridge cap.

Yellow lines — Stand Up Clips

These ridges are seen from more than one side (front and back and/or each side of the house), so they need clips that stand the bulbs on top of the ridge.

If you’re only doing the front, regular shingle clips are fine here. Stand Up Clips only matter when both sides need to look clean.

Everything else — shingle clips

Eaves, gutters, and front-facing gables all use standard shingle clips. They hold just as well and run about a dollar less per clip.

Why it matters: Stand Up Clips are more expensive and more time consuming to install. There’s no need to pay extra and spend more of your time than you have to.

Everything but a ladder. One afternoon is all it takes.
