Which clips do I need?
Ridge clips are only for the peaks that need to look good from more than one direction. Everything else uses standard shingle clips.
Yellow lines — ridge clips
These ridges are seen from more than one side (front and back and/or each side of the house), so they need clips that stand the bulbs on top of the ridge.
White line — ridge clips only if you’re lighting the back too
If you’re only doing the front, regular shingle clips are fine here. Ridge clips only matter when both sides need to look clean.
Everything else — shingle clips
Eaves, gutters, and front-facing gables all use standard shingle clips. They hold just as well and run about a dollar less per clip.
Why it matters: Ridge clips are more expensive and more time consuming to install. There’s no need to pay extra and spend more of your time than you have to.
